Dr. Kim will begin by reviewing your symptoms and dental history, followed by a focused clinical examination and appropriate diagnostic imaging. When additional detail is needed, advanced imaging or magnification may be used to better evaluate the tooth and surrounding structures.
Once the source of the problem is identified, Dr. Kim will explain the diagnosis and discuss the appropriate next step—whether that means immediate endodontic treatment, further evaluation, or coordination with your dentist.

The appropriate treatment depends on what is causing your symptoms. Depending on your diagnosis, care may include treatment for an inflamed or infected pulp, management of a previously treated tooth, evaluation of a cracked or injured tooth, or referral back to your dentist when endodontic treatment is not needed.
Our goal is to identify the problem accurately, address urgent symptoms when possible, and determine the most appropriate treatment to resolve the issue.

Contact our office for an evaluation, especially if the pain is severe, persistent, worsening, or accompanied by swelling or sensitivity. Avoid placing aspirin or other medication directly on the tooth or gums, and follow any instructions provided by your dental team while you wait to be seen.
Do I need an emergency appointment if my tooth is swollen?
Swelling around a tooth or gum can be a sign of infection and should be evaluated promptly. Contact our office so we can determine the source of the swelling and recommend appropriate care.
What if I injured or knocked my tooth?
Dental trauma should be evaluated promptly, even if the tooth does not hurt immediately. Treatment recommendations depend on the type and extent of the injury, so timely evaluation can help determine whether the tooth and surrounding tissues require treatment or monitoring. The AAE’s current trauma guidance emphasizes prompt diagnosis and individualized management following dental injuries.
Will I automatically need a root canal?
Not necessarily. Tooth pain can have several causes, and the appropriate treatment depends on the diagnosis. Dr. Kim will evaluate the tooth and explain whether endodontic treatment is recommended or whether another type of dental care is more appropriate.
What should I bring to an emergency appointment?
Please bring a photo ID, insurance information, and a current list of medications. If your dentist has provided a referral or recent X rays, those are helpful to bring as well. If you do not have them, no problem. The team can still help you get started with your visit.
